Bracelet, Chainmaille, Untreated Copper, Byzantine Chain Weave
This bracelet was created using the European 4-in-1 (+3) Square Byzantine chain weave which is a variation of the more common European 4-in-1 (+2) Byzantine pattern. The (+#) refers to the number of jump rings used to connect each woven unit together. In this case, 3 rings are used instead of 2. The third linking ring adds additional weight and density to the bracelet (which often appeals to men). Other names for this style are: Etruscan, King’s Braid, Bird Cage, Bird’s Nest, Fool’s Dilemma, Idiot’s Trap and Idiot’s Delight.
The size of the jump rings used is 14 gauge, 5/16 ID (inner diameter). These rings are not shiny because they have not been treated with an anti-tarnish agent by the manufacturer, so the natural patina is quite evident. If a brighter finish is preferred the bracelet can be polished so that the patina is removed. However, regular periodic polishing will be required in order to maintain such a finish.
A toggle clasp was used to finish this bracelet which is approximately 8 inches long.
